Itinerary Val di Cecina and Volterra
The appointment is in the early morning in Bolgheri at the offices of the
La Strada
Consortium of the Vico Costa degli Etruschi. We will reach
our first destination after
crossing and admiring the gentle Tuscan
hill. We stopped at the wine cellar of
Montecatini Val of Cecina, also
famous for the production of the Vin Santo, where
they will illustrate
the winemaking process and we will taste the farm’s wines. We will
leave the wine cellar and the ancient hamlet of Montecatini to reach a
dairy producing
biological cheese. The various phases of the
biological production will be illustrated,
from fieldwork without the
use of fertilisers and pesticides, to the production of biological
milk up to the final phase of the cheeses. It will be possible to
taste cheeses and have
lunch at the farm. Later, we will head toward
Volterra which can be seen in the distance.
Upon reaching the town, we
will visit an ancient artisan shop to admire the workmanshop
of alabaster as done in the past. In Volterra, we will spend an hour to
visit the medieval
city, which still preserves the signs of the past
intact. You will also have some free time
to go shopping. If
time permits, on our return we will briefly stop in an abandoned
hamlet,
where we can breathe the atmosphere of the past and get an
idea of its original
architecture, observing the feudal mansion, the
small church and the cemetery and 800
headstones.
Price
(min. 8 people): € 55 / person, including:
visits, wine tasting, cheese, lunch at the cheese farm, tour guide.
